13 Years Old
I am a binge eater, I have so so much stress in my life. My parents are wack, I gained 15 pounds in 2 months with over eating daily. Before that I weighed 130 5'3, then the 15 pounds 145 but i am now 5'4.
All of a sudden I started eating about 600 cals a day less... and its weird because its been so easy which i can't believe. The past 6 months I've tried all this stuff and failed with diets.
Now, I am starting a new school at the end of January, and want to be like 115. I am doing the starvation diet thing, only dinner starting as in tomorrow, and hopefully I will loose it by then, I'm so scared to gain it back. If I started working out and eating lunch would it help please answer, please.
ANSWER
The first thing that I need to say is that I cannot give advice to anyone underage without parental consent.
With that said I do believe that I need to address this issue, at least in general terms.
I hear about so many teenagers who are this situation. Wishing that they were smaller than they are... and willing to do anything to get there.
In fact the most popular way to lose weight as a teenager is to restrict calories; even to the point of starvation. This very act sets a person up for binge eating and other eating disorders.
When we deny our bodies of the nutrients that they need: our bodies fight back! How? With incredible urges to eat! And not just anything. Your body can be so depleted that the first foods that are turned to are high calorie, sugar laden, health bombs.
Restrictive dieting and binge eating can become a large cycle. Going from one to the other and feeding off of each other.
So why is this happening?
A large part of teenage girls wanting to be thin is social and cultural pressure. All you have to do is walk by a rack of magazines and look at the cover. They are plastered with runway models and filled with articles how how to be "beautiful".
No one is teaching our youth how to take care of their bodies and be confident in themselves. Or at least the message isn't getting across. This is what they hear, "You need to be thin to be happy, to have love, to succeed in life".
The best way to take care of our bodies is to eat healthy meals on a regular basis. And once a day is not "regular"! That kills your metabolism and thwarts not only weight loss, but overall health.
The best thing that a young woman can do for herself is seek out a good role model. Turn to your parents and other adults who are living healthy lifestyles. Learn how about how to become healthy, not skinny.
All my Best,
Stefanie
