Am I a binge eater?

by Ratna
(Manila,Phillipines)

I'm really glad to find this website... I have problem with my eating habit, but I'm not sure if it is binge eating disorder.

I love to cook, taste, and eat.... But I am a ballerina, and I need to have a perfect body, so this situation makes me stressed.

When I wake up in the morning, most of the time I always think about food, when I start eating it is hard for me to stop.

I keep on eating my food until I'm almost always finished. It is so hard to stop. For example: milk, sweet food, salty food, sweet again, beverage, and I always turn eat the food, until I'm almost finished.

Even if I feel full, but my tongue still wants to have something tasty, especially sweet things.

I often try to eat healthy, like veggies and fruit, but its almost always only for 4-5 days. That makes me depressed. I feel like a failure.

So its so hard to maintain my weight. I often think about cooking, how it tastes, abs what is the perfect match,etc...

Then I'm depressed because I failed,i just don't care and I want to finished all the food I have in my fridge... that is bad as well, and I feel guilty.

Am I binge eater?

ANSWER

The only person that can determine if you binge eat is yourself, a counselor, or doctor. This online quiz may help.

While its fine to find out through facts and quizzes if you have tendency to binge eat. It really doesn't matter; it could be anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, or compulsive eating.... Any type of disordered eating stems from something much deeper than food.

If you begin on the level of 'controlling' what you eat... you will ALWAYS be in an unhealthy cycle.

But if you are willing to look deeper; changing your beliefs about life and your coping skills... binge eating simply won't be an issue that you deal with every day.

It is a process and it takes time, patience, and willingness.

Dare to be open and change your life.

All my Best,

Stefanie
