Binge Eating MedicationIs there a binge eating medication that really works? The thought of a doctor writing out a prescription drug for emotional eating makes me feel very uncomfortable. It feels like another attempt to alleviate the symptoms without fixing the problem! I feel that medications for emotional eating is asking for more side effects than help. I have provided this page for your information only. I don't believe that a drug can be considered "binge eating help". But nonetheless; its out there!
Photo by Dani Simmonds Antidepressants (SSRIs) Antidepressants have been shown to improve serotonin levels. It is thought that they may help to diminish the urge to binge for that "high" of happiness. It was also shown to improve patient's depression (hence the name anti-depressants). I do not believe that you can fix an emotional problem with a chemical. But there is one exception: if you truly have the kind of depression that is directly related to a chemical imbalance, then a chemical can help. The problem is that most people who are depressed do not have a true chemical imbalance. The feeling of depression is brought on from suppressing emotions that you don't want to deal with. You are so busy NOT dealing with the real problem that you literally become depressed. All your energy has been wasted on avoiding the real problem. So what are the side effects?

Topamax is not the only drug being tested when it comes to binge eating. But I am not going to go any further. There is no medication for binge eating that will fix the REAL problem.
