Calories

How many calories does a binge eater consume on average during an episode?

ANSWER

This is a hard question to answer!

The reason is because it can vary largely from person to person and even from one binge eating episode to another.

The specific calories would depend greatly on the type of food that is being used.

A general answer could be anywhere from 2,000 calories to upwards of 10,000.

But I can only answer for myself personally.
An average binge for me used to include:

  • Large bowl of cereal with milk

  • Chips

  • Brownies

  • Pizza rolls

  • Back to the cereal

Now that comes out to be about one day worth of calories! Some binges would be smaller and some would be significantly larger.

You can imagine how quickly a person's weight would spiral out of control when struggling with binge eating. But the important thing to remember is the binges and the weight gain are only symptoms of a bigger issue. Most binge eater have a hard time dealing with stress and other emotions; which drive them to comfort with food.

Hope that answers your question.

All my Best,

Stefanie
