Compulsive Eating

Compulsive eating could also be called food addiction, binge eating, emotional eating, etc..

It can be described as a feeling of not being able to stop eating or not being in control of amount the food that you eat.

This type of eating usually leads to feelings of shame, guilt, depression and excessive weight gain. A person who eats compulsively may also go through phases of restricting food.

People who struggle with this use food as a way to cope with:

  • Stress
  • Emotions (sometimes even happiness)
  • Uncomfortable situations
  • And any other aspect of life that is hard to deal with

If you have ever had any experience with eating this way; you may feel hopeless and like there is no way out. The harder you try to control it the worse it gets.

Overcoming compulsive eating is something that must come from the inside out. It cannot begin with diet and exercise. It must begin with the reasons the behavior started in the first place. This usually means paying attention to your stress level and emotions.

This may mean that you need to take a clear look at what really goes on inside your head. The best way to get started with this is to begin journal writing.

Many people who struggle with this never ask for help. The reason is because this behavior seems like it should be "controllable". The person fears that if they ask for help they will be judged and handed another diet.

Sometimes this does happen when a person goes to a traditional Doctor. Mainstream medicine still treats these types of eating problems with diets and exercise regimens. The first step to getting real help is to go to the right person and get the right information of how to stop compulsive eating. I hope that this information and this website can provide you with that "right" information.
