Resentment
by Sue

I have a hard time maintaining weight losses because at some point, I always get very resentful that I have to give up my binges. I have been in this binge cycle for 35 years now.
Any words of advice?
ANSWER
This should be an aha moment for you. If you feel resentful that you have to let go of your binges; then you know that there is a pay off for you.
Binging is giving you something... it has a benefit attached to it.
The best way to get rid of the resentment and maintain the weight loss you want is to take a look at what benefits binging gives you.
These benefits may not be obvious; but they are there. They may be unconscious beliefs that you hold.
A few of mine were:
- Food helps me cope with stress; it makes me feel better.
- Being overweight keeps me safe from unwanted attention.
As long as I held these beliefs; binging would be present in my life. Binging kept extra weight on me and as long as I ate emotionally; food would be a comfort.
The key to remember is that binging is not necessarily the problem. Yes it is A problem; but it is more of a symptom of other issues and beliefs playing out.
