Shame
Many binge eaters are dealing with this emotion. First we need to make the definition of SHAME clear. You also need to know how it relates to guilt. It is feeling that something is wrong with you. Not that you've done something wrong; but that you are a "mistake". Or that you can't do anything right because there is something about you that is not quite right. On the other hand is guilt. This is recognizing a behavior that is not in line with your morals. Guilt is something that is a product of your conscience. It is your compass to lead you through life; to help you distinguish between right and wrong.

| Guilt (healthy) | Shame (unhealthy) | | I did something "wrong" | There is something wrong with me | | I made a mistake | I am a mistake | | I am motivated to change my behavior | I can't change my behavior; it's a part of me | | I can progress | I am stuck | | Not perfect, but trying | I will never be as good as "her/him" | | Say "thank you" for compliments | Avoid compliments from others |
This concept is taught in The Power to Lose Program.
If you struggle with this; you may also be
feeling worthless.
The reason these topics are here is to help you understand what you need to focus on. It's not about the weight itself; it's about WHY you are overweight. You can diet and exercise all you want; but at the end of the day, you will still sabotage yourself if you haven't changed your beliefs. If you do not believe you are valuable; this cycle will continue. As a binge eater, you have to go inward to what is causing you to overeat. No diet, without changing your beliefs, will give you a permanent solution. Keep your head up and remember that you are worth all the effort to change your beliefs... if you stick to this, your life will be full of joy. Need help or support? Please
